For Webmasters

Information for website owners and system administrators about Readybot.io's feed bot.

What is Readybot?

Readybot.io is a bot that lets Discord chat app users subscribe to online feeds. When a new item is posted, Readybot posts it as a message in the subscriber's Discord channel(s), acting as an intermediary so the subscriber is notified automatically without having to check your site manually.

Why is Readybot making requests?

One or more Readybot users have added your feed(s) to their Discord server(s). The bot checks each feed periodically on their behalf and posts new items to their private channel or wider community. Readybot behaves like any other RSS reader: the only difference is that the updates go to Discord rather than an app.

We follow modern caching protocols, and only make additional requests when needed to fulfill the user's requested update interval. In case a valid feed can not be found many times in succession, Readybot will automatically stop making any further requests.

How do I identify Readybot?

Readybot identifies itself in HTTP requests with the following user agent string:

Readybot.io (https://readybot.io/webmasters)

We encourage allowing all feed reader traffic on your website. This benefits all of your readers and not just the users of Readybot.io.

Why allow feed bots?

Every Readybot subscriber is someone who deliberately chose to follow your content. When Readybot posts a new entry to their Discord channel, they see it and may click through to your site. We do not extract, scrape or save your content for any other purpose than to forward it for our users. Readybot preserves the full links and credit to your content when reposting.

In addition to Readybot, countless other feed reader apps and services can consume your feeds. Machine use of feeds drives real human traffic to your website.
